A visit to Malaga: Torremolinos
Torremolinos is located on the Costa del Sol, on the western side of the Bay of Málaga and protected by the Sierra de Mijas mountain ranges. The popular resort is located 13 km from Malaga, the provincial capital and about 7 km from Malaga airport.
Torremolinos is one of the most multicultural and liberal cities of Andalucia. Here live up to 130 different nationalities throughout the year, to which have to be added the visitors coming to the city during the summer season.
By the year 1300, the dynasty of the Arabs began the construction of a beacon tower, which was named later Torre de los Molinos (tower of the mills), which would complete the composition of the name of Torremolinos.
The best known shopping street is Calle San Miguel, located in the old town. At the end of this street is the Torre Molinos and not far is situated the Castillo del Ingles or Santa Clara. Among the notable buildings are the Hotel Pez Espada and the Pablo Picasso Cultural Centre.
Other interesting buildings are the Casa de los Navajas, neo-Mudejar style, and the Church of San Miguel, as well as the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions of the Costa del Sol and the Prince of Asturias Municipal Auditorium, which hosts the largest events the city.
The main attractions are the beaches and nightlife of Torremolinos. The municipality has nearly 7 kilometres of coastline, with the main beaches of Los Alamos, Playamar Bajondillo, Carihuela, Montemar and El Saltillo.
